MIT has created an AI (Artificial Intelligence) named ‘Norman’. Researchers created this AI with thought processes of a psychopath and naming him Norman with the likeness of the character in the 1960’s movie Psycho.
Norman was created by using a learning algorithm which can influence it’s behavior. Most believe algorithms are unfair and most times biased, though, it is simply the data that was given to the algorithm that creates the bias. Norman was created purposely with a bias when the creators fed it dark and twisted images, creating a psychopathic data processing.
Researchers created Norman to explore algorithms and the danger of an AI being fed the wrong data. When tested with inkblots, Norman only sees images of death and gore.
Before his death, the world-renowned physicist, Professor Stephen Hawking, said, “AI could replace humans altogether if its development was taken too far.”
“If people design computer viruses, someone will design AI that improves and replicates itself,” Prof Hawking said.
“This will be a new form of life that outperforms humans.”
What do you think? If AI’s were fed dangerous data, could they replace humans? Leave your thoughts in the comments!
